In the cold and dark season, many people find it difficult to get up in the morning. There is a very simple “water-plus-trick” to help you get your day off to a perfect start. If you don’t like getting up in the morning, you should give it a try. Warm lemon water is a great way to get you going in the morning.

Preparation of lemon water

Preparing the pick-me-up is very simple. Warm water from the tap can provide the basis. If you prefer to boil water, you can let tap water or non-carbonated mineral water cool down to around 37 °C after boiling. Some kettles can set the temperature to exactly 37 °C. Add half to a whole freshly squeezed lemon to a cup or glass of solid water containing 200 to 250 ml of water. Here you should try out for yourself how intense the acidity of the lemon can be for your stomach so that the lemon water feels pleasant.

The warmth of the water is good for you

The human body has a normal core temperature of between 36.3 and 37.4 °C. Any drink above this temperature needs to be cooled down by the body in order to be metabolized. If the drink is below the temperature limit, it must be warmed up by the body. The body needs energy for both warming up and cooling down. In the morning, however, the metabolism is not yet in full swing after a good night’s sleep. It is therefore particularly good for the body to have warm, but not hot, drinks.

Fresh lemon: vitamin C vitality boost

Drinking water in the morning is good for the body. By adding freshly squeezed lemon juice, it also gets a good dose of vitamin C first thing in the morning. This is very beneficial to health, as vitamin C strengthens the immune system and has anti-inflammatory properties. As lemons also contain the mineral potassium, which supports nerve and brain functions as well as blood pressure regulation, your body gets good morning support for its vitality. The antioxidants it contains are helpful for cell protection and are therefore also reflected in a better complexion in the long term.

The lemon can do even more

Even if the lemon tastes sour, it has an alkalizing effect on the body. This allows the natural pH value in the body to be balanced. Especially on days when you consume a lot of sugary foods and drinks that have an acidic effect on the body, this balance is particularly important for the body. Digestion can also be optimized in the morning with lemon water, as it stimulates stomach acid production. Citric acid also stimulates the liver and makes it work more actively. As cleansing processes take place in the body during the night, lemon water can help with detoxification processes in the morning. This is also an important aspect for those who want to lose weight, as is the pectin contained in lemons, which can act as a naturally discreet appetite suppressant.

A tip for a change of taste: slightly sweetened with half a teaspoon of honey, the lemon water loses its sour taste. A pinch of Ceylon cinnamon to enhance the flavor of the lemon water is also a good choice. Both supplements are good for the metabolism and do not burden it.
