Initial situation

The senior citizens group in Germany currently comprises around 18.3 million people. As people age, the likelihood of needing long-term care increases. There are currently around 4.5 million people in Germany in need of long-term care who receive care on an outpatient or inpatient basis. Due to demographic developments, a significant increase is expected in the coming years.

Follow

In German hospitals, volume deficiency, which is typical for old age, is increasingly being diagnosed as the main diagnosis, around 125,000 times in 2017. The average length of stay was 6.5 days, and 5,371 people died as a result of dehydration. The secondary diagnosis was volume deficiency rd. 925,000 times detected. 90% of the affected patients were 65 years or older.

Solution

Modern technologies and the use of artificial intelligence make it possible to digitize entire work processes and thus optimize operational procedures.

Dehydration as a cost factor

Dehydration not only endangers the health of elderly people and care recipients, it also causes considerable additional effort and costs in care. It is therefore important to ensure adequate and regular hydration throughout.

Keeping track of drinking behavior, reminding the care recipient to drink fluids, monitoring them, and keeping a drinking log are very time consuming in daily care work. Often, there is a lack of sufficient resources for this.

With our hydration management, we offer a digital total solution consisting of a combination of a smart drinking cup with intelligent data management. While our SmartCup reminds the user to drink individually via light, sound and / or vibration, the intelligent data management ensures continuous monitoring of drinking behavior.

Hydration management from LAQA

Modern technologies as well as the use of artificial intelligence enable,
digitize entire work processes and thus lead to an optimization of operational processes.

By using IoT communication, no surrounding technology such as WLAN or Bluetooth is required on site. The SmartCup can therefore be used anywhere and at any time. The data can be viewed device-independently via an Internet connection or made available interoperably in third-party systems.

The use of the LAQA total solution ultimately leads to an increase in the well-being and health of the users in addition to the considerable relief of the nursing staff.

Intelligent data processing in accordance with IT security and data protection requirements

Funding Opportunity

The Nursing Staff Strengthening Act (Pflegepersonal-Stärkungs-Gesetz – PpSG) is not the only way to promote investments in the digitization of nursing care that will relieve the burden on nursing staff. Other federal or individual state funding programs exist that may be considered when implementing the hydration management solution.
