Spring fatigue

Every year – the days are getting longer, birds are chirping, winter is over and we could actually get going – actually.

If it weren’t for the big yawn.

Frequent topics of conversation are sensitivity to the weather, fatigue and feelings of listlessness, and occasionally people complain of dizziness, poor circulation and irritability. All these symptoms are traditionally referred to as “spring fatigue” – which affects around one in four people in Germany.

This raises the question of the cause of this mass fatigue.

When in doubt, the hormones

Rather not, it is probably due to inadequate coordination of various bodily functions. The different organs adapt to the changed conditions in spring in their own rhythm, so it can take a while before everything runs smoothly again.

What to do?

Give in to yawning and just pull the covers over your head – that would be nice.

Nutrition plays an important role in the transition period between winter and spring. Fresh fruit and vegetables should be on the menu. You should also make sure you drink enough fluids. Here in particular, it makes sense not to drink less than the recommended daily amount of 1.5 liters.

In addition to tap water and mineral water, which are the healthiest thirst quenchers, there are alternatives that can also help you keep your eyes open and give you energy.

Relying on the power of nature

Sun, fresh air and exercise are part of the standard program to combat spring fatigue. So-called “wellness drinks” have also been popular and healthy for some time now: they are a full dose of nature’s treasure chest, supply the body with vitamins, minerals and trace elements in spring and put an end to spring tiredness.

Green smoothies are a trendy green drink. The basis for this is water – essential for the body and if you make a green smoothie first thing in the morning, you will start the day well hydrated. It includes leafy vegetables and fruit.

Whether chard and banana, kale and apples or lettuce and berries – whatever tastes good is allowed. As with milk, smoothies are not fully included in the daily fluid balance. They contain fiber, which is considered food. Smoothies should therefore be consumed as a supplement to the recommended daily intake and benefit from the ingredients.

Refreshed, but fresh please

Infused water is the magic word, also when it comes to banishing spring tiredness. These drinks with the power name not only taste delicious, the ingredients release minerals, vitamins and antioxidants into the water, which you in turn supply to your body.

Selected combinations have a particularly positive effect on various bodily functions. Lemon, for example, provides energy, boosts the metabolism and improves digestion.

All types of fruit and berries add sweetness to the water and provide ????. They also strengthen the immune system. Rosemary is said to boost fat burning and improve memory.

Mint prevents allergies – a particularly relevant topic in spring – and also improves the appearance of the skin, which has visibly suffered during the winter months. It is important to produce the drink yourself and not to serve the booming market of soft drinks with added benefits. In most cases, hydration is the only purpose of industrially produced wellness drinks.

Simply more power

For a healthy and refreshing infused water, mix a liter of water – in this case tap water, alternatively still mineral water – with about a handful of your favorite ingredient and leave the mixture to infuse for a few hours.

Fruit, vegetables or herbs can be added. Cucumber, ginger, lemon and mint are particularly popular. Let your imagination run wild – the result is always fresh and healthy when enjoyed throughout the day.

It’s all a matter of attitude

Instead of whining your way through springtime fatigue, you should simply take matters into your own hands. Drive them away with exercise, fresh air and tasty, healthy drinks.

Spring tiredness quickly turns into a “spring fever” that drives them out into the longer days and the awakening nature.
