Trying out new things is fun, you want to be part of the action. This also applies to food and drink. It doesn’t have to be beer from a champagne bottle, the tried and tested tap water is here to stay. But something is happening in the middle.

Drinking is fun

We now know that drinking is important. We are disciplined and remember to drink the recommended 1.5 to 2 liters a day – which we naturally also consume in the form of healthy (mineral) water from glass bottles – regularly throughout the day and before we get thirsty. Soft drinks are a thing of the past, alcohol is only served on public holidays and we stopped sweetening our coffee a long time ago. You don’t recognize yourself here? Many people feel the same way.

As important as drinking is, it is often neglected. New drinking trends not only promise more taste, health, fitness or better concentration. Rather, they can also be an incentive to devote more attention to this one essential thing and to have fun doing it. After all, it’s much easier to look forward to a visually appealing drink with an unusual taste or a varied consistency than to down a bland glass of water.

What was, what remains, what is new?

(Mineral) water was and is a staple food and the basis of almost all other drinks. Germany alone is now home to 500 different mineral waters. With different mineral contents, sparkling or not, in plastic or glass. Mineral water is healthy – free of calories and other additives, it is an ideal thirst quencher. Nowadays, even women’s handbags are big enough to carry a bottle of water for a youthful complexion. You can also use tap water at home. Well inspected and delivered to your house or apartment in food quality, it is available even when the stores are closed. If a glass of water is the first drink of the day, you’ve already done something for your conscience and your health.

Smoothies, the ultimate vitamin bombs with a creamy consistency, were regarded as the ultimate summer refreshment and replaced many a meal in between. This winter they were discovered as a cocoa substitute for cold days – which took away the last excuse for hot chocolate. Warm and sweet, low in calories and healthy – you couldn’t argue with that. Although it has a firmer consistency, it is still suitable for covering part of the daily fluid requirement in a tasty way.

Something new more often

Trend drinks – Exotic drinks

Exotic representatives on the market for trend drinks are goji berries, matcha, mate, almond milk and coconut water. As milestones on the path to self-optimization, they provide taste and supply ingredients such as minerals, trace elements, vitamins, antioxidants and caffeine from natural sources. Here, the conscience drinks along, one pays sufficient attention to the topic of health.

Espresso macchiato, cappuccino, cold brew, frappé, bulletproof coffee or classic filter coffee – the list of ways to enjoy coffee is long. Even longer for the different types of coffee. On average, we drink two to three cups a day, and even if nobody is allowed to know it, we still prefer filter coffee.

The “super coffee”

Of course, a power booster like Mushroom Coffee, also known as the “healthiest coffee in the world” by people with an undeniable penchant for caffeine, has a greater impact. Probably more for specialists, in addition to the Arabica coffee beans, it contains mushrooms such as Reishi (shiny lacquered mushroom), Chaga (slanting slate mushroom), Cordyceps sinensis (core mushroom) or the hedgehog spiny beard. These are considered vital or medicinal mushrooms and have a higher proportion of amino acids and antioxidants, for example.

They also have anti-inflammatory properties. For the very sleep-deprived, maca coffee is the tuning drink in the morning. The tuber from the Andes belongs to the cruciferous family, to which our native cabbage also belongs. It has been a popular alternative to espresso in the morning for a number of years and impresses with its three to five times higher dose of caffeine compared to coffee or tea. Apart from the respective ingredients, however, one thing is primarily relevant when it comes to the daily fluid balance: Coffee is now also considered a drink and can cover part of your daily intake, but should still be treated as a stimulant.

It’s the quantity that counts

Whether drinking is a world view, a smart trend or a necessary evil, the important thing is that we do it. If you find it difficult, trendy flavored variants help you to reach for a glass or cup more often. They can also provide a health bonus or at least soothe our conscience. As long as we get our daily 1.5 to 2 liters of liquid, the latte can be pink and the smoothie can be neon green.
