The trees are in full bloom, the sun is shining and it’s getting warmer. For many, this is a welcome opportunity to treat themselves to another iced coffee or fill the fridge with cold drinks. Fresh things like juices, lemonades and the odd beer. Sweet and delicious. If you want to refresh yourself with a tasty drink and do something good for your body, there is a delicious alternative.

The need for fluids increases in warm weather

When it gets warmer outside, our body adapts to the temperature. We’re sweating more, but we’re also craving refreshing drinks again and reaching for a glass more often. That’s a good thing. While the normal human fluid requirement is around 2.7 liters per day, of which we should consume between 1.5 and 2 liters through drinks, this increases with the temperature. Equalization is the order of the day. There is hardly anything better for this than water. This fulfills a variety of functions in our body and is indispensable. It is the main component of body fluids – nutrients are transported by water and metabolic products are removed. Water is the coolant in the body’s cooling system and the most important structural element of the body. This consists of approx. 60 percent water.

So we drink water – logical. However, in the long run perhaps a little bland and not very varied.

Fresh, tasty and healthy

Calorie bombs with whipped cream and sweet lemonades are a thing of the past. We are now more health-conscious and know what is harmful to our bodies. Sugar, fat, colorings and preservatives – all things we can do without.

But a fresh drink is not directly a calorie bomb. The tasty alternative for the warmer months is homemade berry water – water with flavor and health benefits. By adding fresh berries, bland water quickly becomes a taste sensation and also looks great.

How to make it: Fresh berry water with lemon and mint

Strawberry water

Strawberry water

Blueberries are a real superfood, strawberries prevent blood sugar spikes, lemons curb the appetite, aid digestion and, together with mint, boost fat burning.

You need:

150 g (frozen) strawberries and blueberries
1 lemon, finely sliced
10 mint leaves
1.5 liters of (mineral) water

Put the ingredients together with the water in a glass jug and leave the mixture to infuse in the fridge for a few hours, depending on the desired flavor intensity. If you want to intensify the taste even more, you can lightly mash the berries with a fork to release even more of their tasty and healthy ingredients into the water.

The good thing about water enriched with fruit flavors is that it really makes you want more. This makes it very easy not only to cover your daily fluid requirements, but also to drink “beyond thirst”. Berries in particular are rich in vitamins and minerals and contain a variety of secondary plant substances such as flavonoids, which have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect. The berries release their aroma and some of their valuable ingredients into the water – and keep their calories to themselves.

If you are aiming for a slim figure, berry water is superior to juice, spritzers or smoothies as a tasty source of liquid.

Adding ginger to the berry water, for example, has a double effect on our figure. Ginger stimulates the metabolism and helps to maintain weight or fight fat deposits. Lemon slices have a similarly positive effect. With their high vitamin C content, they flush fat out of the cells and thus support a slim figure.

Important when choosing fruit

First in the sequence of seasons, strawberries are already available to us in May for delicious berry water. When buying the fruit, you should make sure that it is nice and plump and has dry, shiny skin. Berries are very sensitive to pressure and quickly start to mold after damage.

If you don’t want to wait for fruit such as raspberries, blackberries or blueberries to ripen later, you can also reach for the freezer shelf. The vitamin and mineral content of frozen fruit hardly differs from that of fresh fruit. If you add the berries to the water when frozen, you get an additional cooling effect.

If you drink this cool treat throughout the day, you are always well refreshed and hydrated. The attractive appearance and aroma of the berries also keep the desire for sweets in check, leaving you completely satisfied

Fresh food from our own production

If you fancy something fresh when the weather is nice, delicious berry water is a good choice. Not only an ideal drink to keep the body hydrated – the healthy ingredients released by the berries into the water provide an additional benefit. If this homemade refreshment is already calorie-free in itself, adding lemon and mint turns it into a real slimming drink. With these exquisite ingredients in a glass, you can enjoy the beautiful weather even more.
