Innovative “Smartcup” and digital hydration management as a key solution
The latest AOK Care Report 2023 sheds light on a critical and previously under-researched area of care – dehydration med.: Volumenmangel der extrazellulären Flüssigkeit, u.a. des Blutplasmas – dem Körper wird weniger Flüssigkeit zugef... in care home residents, particularly those with dementia. The Munich-based start-up LAQA is tackling the problem of dehydration with an innovative approach that it claims offers a proactive solution to improve hydration. LAQA presents hydration management and SmartCup technology as a solution to the challenges highlighted in the report. According to the manufacturer, this technology enables
- Individual drink reminder: The SmartCup reminds the user to drink via light, sound and/or vibration. In order to be able to respond to the biography of users suffering from dementia, it will also be possible in future to play small, individually well-remembered melodies.
- Recording and analysis: Complete recording of the drinking behavior of the respective user. The SmartCup is also able to independently detect excessively long breaks and distinguish between the amount of liquid actually drunk or spilled.
- Real-time monitoring by SmartCup: An innovative technology that monitors fluid consumption in real time to ensure adequate hydration.
- Automated documentation and integration into the care management software: Possibility for care staff to view the drinking log at any time and thus have legally compliant documentation of the drinking behavior of care recipients.
“With hydration management and SmartCup technology, we are striving to take a revolutionary step in care by actively combating dehydration and thus significantly improving the quality of life of seniors and those in need of care,” says Managing Director Bernd Hoffmann of LAQA.
